Why it is dangerous
Only a small share of mushroom species are toxic, but the toxic ones can be extremely dangerous and are difficult to distinguish from harmless ones. Depending on the species, they can affect the stomach, the nervous system, the liver or the kidneys. Pet Poison Helpline advises treating every mushroom a pet eats as toxic unless a specialist identifies it as safe.
