Caution
Only a little of the flesh, occasionally. Never the pit or skin. Sources differ on how risky avocado is, so we give the more cautious verdict.

When it is a problem
Pet Poison Helpline and PDSA describe avocado flesh as non-toxic or safe in small amounts for dogs, and the ASPCA says the main problem is for birds and some farm animals. AKC advises flesh only occasionally in small amounts, because the fat can cause weight gain and pancreatitis. The seed can cause an intestinal blockage.
